There was no plain yogurt at the grocery store last week so we tried kefir instead. I've looked at it before but really had no idea what it was (and there was always plain yogurt available). It turns out it is pretty good stuff. I've only had it with granola so far. It's sort of halfway between milk and yogurt. It coats the granola but is still runny and has a really nice tangine...

I'm sitting here listening to the occasional roll of thunder and rain pelting the deck outside. I'm glad I tied up the tomato plants earlier today. How handy that I don't need to water the garden.

This was a runner up for Saturday's picture. I stayed with the paper piecing because that represented what I did for the day better but I loved these cherries so I'm sharing them too. Cherries are one of my favourite summer fruits. I just wash and pick through them and then leave the bowl on the table for us to pick from throughout the day.

I decorated some thumbtacks for my cork board the other day. I just removed the loops from the back pieces for some covered button forms, made up the buttons and glued on some tacks. They look pretty cute on my board.

The spider plant my sister gave me has been showing buds for a little while and today I noticed that it is finally blooming. They are such delicate looking little flowers.

We went for a walk around the nearby lake not long after moving into our house. There were lots of mosquitos and, far better, lots of dragonflies. We usually see blue-green dragonflies and these red and black ones were something new. One followed us around for a while (probably taking advantage of our cloud of mosquitos) and then landed on Rob.

There are five of these stones. I gathered them as paper weights several years ago when I was learning about Chinese and Japanese brush painting and needed something to hold down my rice paper sheets. They are from the beach in front of my great-grandmother's house. The whole beach is pebbles. Smooth black and grey and white stones like the bedrock that can still be seen at points further...
