I'm wearing new socks today. I finished up the second toe after breakfast and did a little photo session so I could share them with you. Naturally my lovely assistants were in attendance. This is a really nice, simple pattern but I should let you know that I didn't do the heels or toes as written - I like the look and feel of short-row heels and wedge toes and I'm the one wearing the socks so I think it's okay to change things. The stitch pattern is really easy to memorize and since, way down, it's a ribbed stitch these are nice snug socks unlikely to puddle around my ankles. I didn't knit the leg quite as long as the pattern says either. I noticed this winter that I tend to grab my shorter socks more before my tall ones (also a bigger ball of leftovers is more likely to yield a square for my Barn Raising Quilt). Since most of my hand knit socks are currently living in the darning pile I took the very proactive (and profoundly boring) precaution of pre-darning the heels of my new socks to give them the longest life possible before I have to start repairing them. Next on the agenda: A walk with Abby while my new socks show off how warm and cozy they can keep my feet.
