Garden Curry

I made curry for dinner last night and it was awesome. It started in my garden and ended on the table and was super easy to make.

Heat one can of coconut milk and some curry paste (I used two tbsp of green curry paste and a little less than one tbsp of hot red curry paste - just to heat it up a bit - this part is really to taste) on the stove for about five minutes. Add chopped carrots and potatoes and cook for about ten minutes. Add shelled peas and chopped beans and cook another ten minutes or so (until the beans and potatoes are cooked but not so they are getting soggy). Turn off the heat and stir in some fresh, chopped tomatoes. Spoon over rice and eat.

The only vegg in this that wasn't from our garden was the potatoes but they'd been in the cupboard for a while and needed to be used up and I love potatoes in curry. Using veggies we've grown ourselves makes everything taste so good. The tomatoes were incredible - warm but not really cooked - they were little bursts of sweetness. The leftovers were even better as lunch today.

p.s. These beans are awesome. They're called "Purple Queen". They start out dark purple and turn green as you cook them. I've been waiting all summer to see it.

Guess what this is?

I'll give you a closer look.

It's a peanut!

It must have been buried by one of the squirrels that frequents our feeder. I found it growing next to my new plot of spinach (it wasn't there a few days ago when I was planting). I pulled it out while I was weeding and then realized what it was. I kind of wish I'd left it instead of throwing it on the compost (except that I do want to have some spinach this year). I think if I find another I'll let it be and see how it does.

Lazy, Lazy, Lazy

I've got stuff to post and things to do but with a whole extra day of weekend ahead of me I'm putting it all off.

This is one of the sunflowers in my sister's garden. It's taller than either Jane or I and has a huge scary looking spiky bud on it (is it still called a bud when it's bigger than your fist?). There are four or five of these flowers along the inside of the fence that faces the road. I cant wait to see them bloom.

Trellises

Posted by Peanut in GardenAbby

Rob bravely removed our collection of wasps' nests last night so I spent part of my morning happily puttering around in the garden. Beets and spinach and Swiss chard were thinned. Weeds were pulled, berries picked and I finally got around to building some trellises for my peas to climb up.
