Today

... I picked a bowl of fresh sugar snap peas and sunberries. The peas were for my lunch. The sunberries are for the freezer.

... I checked on my ripening tomatoes.

... I plan to do a little more spinning.

... I'm going to try on and rip back the sock I've been working on.

... Abby and I will go adventuring for smooth rocks.

... I'm going to start cutting for a new quilt top.

... I'll contemplate reworking the section of sock I've just ripped out but will probably put it off until tomorrow.

... I should really put in a load of laundry.

... I might try making pasta from scratch.

What are you up to?

Yesterday, in between a slow morning and a lazy evening, we walk down to Old Town for the annual Ramble and Ride. Old Town is a nice walk from our house and I like events where we can take Abby along. We were a little unsure about the weather when we set off. There was a cool breeze and grey clouds passing overhead but when the sun hit you it felt hot. We took a chance and went without jackets, something I was very happy about when we were walking back and not having to carry them.

Why my house smells like vinegar

I'm making watermelon rind pickles right now. The rind is cooking in the pickling liquid (which smells like a cross between the chip truck and Cinnabon). Our whole house smells sweet and vinegary; it tickles my nose.

My Garden Gloves

Posted by Peanut in LifeGarden

I should be gardening right now. I should be out in the yard with Rob moving around large quantities of soil. I should be helping to prep a spot to put rhubarb this fall.

... but we need the wheelbarrow to move soil around and it's in the shed.

... and when I opened the shed and got my gloves out we discovered two beautiful papery wasps nests on the inside of the doors.

They ignored me when I got my gloves and I was not stung when I carefully closed the doors again after we realized that neither of us possessed the necessary mental powers to will the wheelbarrow out of the shed but I don't think I'll be opening the doors again until we're ready to remove the nests.

Even a few wasps buzzing around your head is a lot.
