Making Tracks

Posted by Peanut in WinterWildlifeSpring

With our spell of warm weather all sorts of critters have been out and about. These tracks were all seen on or near the path to work last week. Some I can recognize, others not. If you know who left a set of mystery tracks please leave a note in the comments so we'll know for next time.

These tracks remind me of rabbits but I think they may be from a squirrel based on some tracks near our house that lead to a known squirrel hideout. I'll have to keep a close watch on our back yard to learn for sure.

Thinking

Posted by Peanut in WinterPhotos

I wanted to write today but was not sure what to say or show. I'm not given to grand thoughts or deep introspection but I think it is important to have some quiet, introspective time today, to remember those who have fought and died for for our freedoms and beliefs, and to think of those who are taking up that calling now.

These photos are from a walk I took for an afternoon break last week when the sun decided to show itself. They are not in any way related to Remembrance Day but to me they have a quiet thoughtful quality that I felt might be appropriate.

365

I've decided to give myself a photography challenge this year by joining a 365 group on Flickr. I've been finding myself more and more interested in taking pictures - framing, lighting, etc. - and thought a challenge like this would help me think this way on a regular basis. I'm storing my pictures in their own set to make them easy to find.

Tutorial: Hot Water Bottle Cover

Posted by Peanut in WinterSewing TutorialAbby

When we got Abby everyone recommended that we put a hot water bottle in her crate overnight to help compensate for her missing litter mates. I already love hot water bottles but since I didn't want to give my good cover to Abby her bottle was wrapped in a towel until I could make a new one.

As the northern hemisphere heads into the coldest part of the year (we are already dipping below -40 degrees Celsius here) I though this would make a nice Christmas present for all of you. It's really simple and it will help keep you warm on chilly nights.
