Rob and I went out to one of the smaller lakes for a picnic yesterday. The weather was lovely - sunny and warm with a bit of a breeze. We drove out about four o’clock and walked around and enjoyed the sun until it was time to start our fire for dinner. Hot dogs always taste best when you’ve cooked them yourself over a fire. We had all the regular condiments and Rob convinced me to try Cheesewiz as well. I’m not sure if I’ve made up my mind about it yet. I’ll have to try it again another time. We cooked marshmallows for dessert - what is a camp fire without marshmallows!
 
We took sketchbooks out with us to practice drawing and I also brought my camera. I decided today was a day for trying out detail shots. Here are some of the plants around our fire pit.

My Sewing Bug had been a bit neglected lately. My Knitting Bug has only been around for a couple of years, making it much younger, but somehow it has nearly taken over. I think it may be the portability of knitting and the way it can almost always be done sitting on the couch watching a movie. It’s easier to stop and start a knitting project - there is less equipment involved.
 
I still love sewing but I’ve been finding that my sewing projects tend to be large and involved or for other people. I haven’t been doing so many simple little project and they are the ones that I find really feed creativity - knitting is full of these and that is probably part of its appeal. I needed something very simple and pretty to wake up my Sewing Bug and make it a little hungrier.
 
This has got to be one of the simplest projects out there. I followed the Very Easy Pincushions instructions from the Purl Bee to make myself a new pincushion (my old one tends to roll around the table). There isn’t any machine sewing involved so I was able to do most of it while chatting with Rob and I got to use some of my own home-made felt for the top. It will be a perfect assistant at my sewing table.

This is my wedding bouquet. I’m certain that our photographer has some lovely pictures of it so I’ll save detail shots until then. It is made of felt, beads, wire, floral tape, lace, silk and yarn. I spent most of Friday working on it and I was really pleased with the way it turned out. Robhad a matching boutonniere of a small white flower and a couple of the tiny blue flowers with two leaves. The lace was my something old - it was left over from my grandmothers wedding dress. I was a little worried that my bouquet wouldn’t survive the toss (I knew I could put it back together but I didn’t want anyone to get hurt on the wires trying to catch it) but it performed its job well and was caught by my cousin Rochelle.
