We have more than just the bounty of our garden to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We have a babe in progress bringing us new hopes and fears. Our journey to this point was long and much more complicated than we'd expected when it started, and I may spend some time talking about that in another post some day, but that journey has let us truly appreciate how incredible this is and makes each day it's own amazing miracle. If everything continues to go well we should be meeting our little bundle around the end of February (and as soon as I learned that I had to check if 2013 was a leap year … it's not).
Oh, and that tomato is only about half the size the internet tells me our baby was when I took that picture. The "your baby is this veggie" list I found that morning suggested a large heirloom tomato was the right size and this was the biggest one I had. After taking the picture I found another list that said the baby was closer to the size of a grapefruit but I didn't feel like going shopping (besides the tomato is so cute).

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there who celebrates it this weekend.
I pulled up the rest of my crop of beets this afternoon. About half of them are normal sized and the other half were huge. I roasted some to take to my sister's house for our family dinner. Just peeled, cubed, tossed with olive oil, salt and pepper and an hour or so in the oven at 400F. They taste wonderful and look like deep purple jewels on the table.
