A Walk to Cameron FallsPosted by Peanut in Photos , Photo Essay , Outside |

Abby had a fantastic time running around off-leash (as long as we were not too close to either the road or the river). She's wearing her lifejacket for visibility and to slow her down a bit. She was really good about staying where we could see her even if we couldn't keep up (you should have seen us on the way back - four of us happily tired with the walk and Abby still full of energy and running back and forth - she probably ran the trail about three times all together).
It started to rain just as we were heading back to town. The perfect, lazy evening to follow a busy day outside. There are loads more pictures over on flickr. It took me ages to whittle it down to the ones that are here:
---

I loved this patch of birch trees. There is a bedrock clearing in the middle of it. The whole thing feels so light and airy.

We climbed up one hill to discover an array of inuksuit - built by previous hikers.

The path was still wet and muddy (and even icy) in places but boardwalks had been built over all the soggiest patches.

Sacho (Katy's friend's dog) decided to skip the boardwalks for the most part and drank out of every possible puddle on the way.

We sat down on a ledge over the river to view the falls. Abby decided that she needed to be on my lap as much as possible.

Sacho loves sticks, and fetch, and carried a stick with him nearly the whole time we were walking. They were generally large ones he found himself, specially chosen to whack you in the back of the leg as he ran past.

There is a bridge to cross the river just above the falls. The water below was running very quickly.

On the other side of the bridge were the remains of someone's campfire on the rocks. I really loved all the shades of grey.

Some ice and snow was still around - melting from the top and being carved out by the river on the bottom.

I was surprised at how much green there was already. The ground was covered in places, most trees had buds and some were starting to show early leaves.

We roasted smokies over a fire for dinner. It's really the best way to eat them. The pups were all friendliness while we were cooking and got a bit of a treat out of it (though not the fancy spiced smokies that we were eating).

S'mores, or at least roasted marshmallows, are a requirement for me at outdoor cooking events. It just never really seems complete without them. I got some chocolate bars with fruit in them for something different.
