This is Jasper. He belongs to Rob's parents but stayed with us for the past week while they drove down to Edmonton and back. He's a lot like a cat but with much bigger ears. He's showing up here just in case anyone reading this is a member of the Rockin' Sock Club, hasn't yet received her kit and doesn't want to be spoiled. If this sounds like you then don't scroll down. For everyone else there is yarny goodness to be seen below.

When I first heard that Canada Post might be striking I was worried I would have to wait even longer than usual to get my kit but the strikes have been rotating and not disturbing the flow of mail all that much and my kit arrived in its usual two weeks. The yarn inside makes me smile and I've already decided which pattern I'm going to be making.

This kit's yarn is Socks that Rock lightweight in an extra large skein of muted spring colours. Tina's Dyer's Notes talk about the earthier side of spring: rain and mud, bits of grass peeking through damp soil, the first buds appearing on trees, and blue skies. The colourway is called Maia after the goddess of springtime and growing things. My fingers are itching to knit with this yarn. There is a pink in there that perfectly matches the buds on my crabapple tree right now and a patch of murky yellow-green that I particularly love.
Both of the sock patterns with this kit are lovely. The first is Transition Point by Start Athena (whose name goes with the kit theme so perfectly you'd think her parents had planned it) and the second is Unisex Slip by Stephanie Pearl-MacPhee (also known as The Yarn Harlot). Transition Point is full of curving lines and interesting texture. I think it's very cool but not really my style. Stephanie's pattern is perfect for me. It's a simple socks with just a bit of detail and is something that I could just as easily make for Rob as for myself (and I plan to do both).
Before I start anything new though I need to finish off March's socks … got a bit complacent there and fell behind … I don't think there will be any knitting police after me for not finishing on time though. I'm half way through the second foot and still enjoying working on it.
