I'd decided a while ago to use some of the willows growing at the back of the yard for my trellises. It was actually a lot of fun to be cutting and arranging the big branches. I left a few leaves on the top of each piece just to look pretty until the peas are really underway. Trimming the branches was fun; my clippers were new and sharp and the smell of the sap made me think of my grandmother and helping her in her garden.

I brought Abby outside with me and tied her to the back stairs so she'd be nearby. She seemed to have a great time catching mosquitos and carefully choosing sticks to chew.
